I have an extensive training background in orthopaedic surgery, sports medicine, joint replacements, regenerative medicine, limb reconstructions and foot/ankle surgery. I excel in treating both the straightforward and complex orthopaedic injuries. Having completed two orthopedic fellowships, multiple publications and presentations; in addition to caring for professional and college athletes in my career, I bring an unparalleled skill set to all my patients. I am a physician duly licensed to practice medicine in the State of California at all times relevant to this matter. Unless context indicates otherwise, I have personal knowledge of all facts contained in this Declaration, and if called as a witness and I could and would testify competently thereto.
I have recently been re-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) and my specialty as an orthopaedic surgeon is in extremity trauma/injuries: i.e. shoulders, elbows, wrist/hand, hip, knee, and foot/ankle. I have been a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS) for 24 years, and have completed a fellowship in both Sports Medicine/Arthroscopy and Foot/Ankle Surgery. I continue to take “Trauma Call” at a Level II Hospital in Central California, in addition to my private practice in Southern California. In addition to my specialty of orthopaedics, I am also certified in radiographic and fluoroscopic operation. Throughout my career, I have personally reviewed thousands of x-rays, CTs and MRIs. Furthermore, I have specialized training in geriatric fragility fractures through the AO North America and help establish the “Geriatric Fracture Program” while I was the Medical Director of the Orthopaedic Hospitalist Program at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley, Ca. I have performed hundreds of hip arthroplasties (Both Total Joint and Hemi-) in my career, thousands of open reduction/internal fixation (“ORIF”) surgeries, and approximately 100 femoral periprosthetic femur repairs. In addition to being a surgeon in various hospitals in Southern California, I have substantial experience in professional and collegiate sports as a physician. I was on the medical staff directly, as a fellow, or consulting with the following teams: The Oakland Raiders, University of San Francisco Men’s Soccer, San Jose City College Football, FC Dallas Professional Soccer, Kansas City Royals Professional Baseball, San Jose Sharks Professional Hockey, San Jose Sabercats Professional Indoor Football, Texas Rangers Professional Baseball, Red Bull Grand Prix-Mazda Raceway, and others. I was also part of The Oakland Raiders Medical Staff who critically reviewed radiographs and conducted the physicals of former collegiate football players at the 2006 NFL Combine held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
As a highly experienced orthopedic surgeon, I have often worked closely with nurses, physical therapists, athletic trainers, occupational therapists, hospital staff, and other healthcare professionals. My involvement has involved customized rehabilitation plans, monitoring a patient’s progress, managing pain, and providing education and support to both the patient/family and caregivers. I am also highly familiar with the various aspects of post-surgical recovery, nursing care, therapy protocols, and hospital documentation related to orthopedic procedures and surgical recovery. As an orthopaedic surgeon in various hospitals in Southern California, I am highly experienced and knowledgeable with respect to standards related to documentation in acute care hospitals, follow up post-surgical care by hospital staff and physicians, physical and occupational therapy following surgery, and pain management for post-surgical patients. I have qualified as an expert in the field of orthopaedic surgery in California courts. I reviewed sufficient documentation and information to render my opinions with respect to this matter. I was able to review the type of documentation, and to obtain the type of information from my review of case-related documents, to formulate my opinions in this matter. The documentation that I reviewed was the type of documentation that experts in orthopaedic surgery, such as myself, rely upon in order to form the opinion expressed in this Declaration.
